Method
Biscuit Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- 3
Cut in Butter
Cut the unsalted butter into small pieces and add it to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 4
Add Milk
Pour in the milk and stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
- 5
Shape Biscuits
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times. Pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle and cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter or a glass.
- 6
Bake
Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
Grilled Ham Preparation
Blackberry Compote Preparation
- 9
Cook the Compote
In a medium saucepan, combine the fresh blackberries, sugar, and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat, stirring gently until the blackberries break down and the mixture thickens, about 10-15 minutes.
- 10
Cool the Compote
Remove from heat and let it cool slightly before using.
Assembly
- 11
Assemble the Biscuit Board
Cut the biscuits in half and layer the grilled smoked ham on the bottom half. Top with a generous spoonful of blackberry compote and a dollop of apple butter. Place the top half of the biscuit on and serve immediately.
