Cheese Curds
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Batter
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Slowly whisk in the cold water until a smooth batter forms. The batter should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.
- 2
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter into it; if it sizzles and rises to the top, the oil is ready.
- 3
Coat the Cheese Curds
Working in batches, dip the fresh cheese curds into the batter, ensuring they are well coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off.
- 4
Fry the Cheese Curds
Carefully place the battered cheese curds into the hot oil. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove them with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
- 5
Serve
Serve the hot cheese curds immediately with ranch dressing for dipping.
