Method

Fried Pickles

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pickles

Slice the dill pickles into 1/4-inch thick rounds and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk until well combined.

  4. 4

    Prepare for Frying

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Batter the Pickles

Dip each pickle slice into the dry batter mixture, then into the wet mixture, and back into the dry mixture to coat fully.

  6. 6

    Fry the Pickles

Carefully place the battered pickles into the hot oil, frying in batches for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown.

  7. 7

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried pickles with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Keep warm while frying the remaining pickles.

Ranch Dressing

  1. 8

    Mix the Ingredients

In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, sour cream, and buttermilk. Whisk until smooth.

  2. 9

    Add Seasonings

Stir in dried dill, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

  3. 10

    Chill the Dressing

Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
