Burger

Optional garnish (omit if strictly plain)

Method

Burger

  1. 1

    Form patty

Divide 0.25 lb ground beef into a single kid-sized portion. Gently form into a round patty about 3.5–4 inches (9–10 cm) across and roughly 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) thick. Do not overwork the meat; light handling keeps it tender.

  2. 2

    Season

Lightly season both sides of the patty with 1/8 tsp fine sea salt and a pinch (about 1/16 tsp) freshly ground black pepper. Salt right before cooking to avoid drawing moisture out.

  3. 3

    Cook

Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium-high heat until hot (about 2–3 minutes). Add 1/2 tablespoon unsalted butter and let it melt and foam. Place the patty in the pan and cook for about 2.5–3 minutes on the first side without pressing. Flip and cook another 2–2.5 minutes for medium doneness (internal temp ~155°F/68°C). For well-done, cook 3 minutes each side. Cooking times vary with equipment — cook until juices run clear and internal temperature is safe.

  4. 4

    Rest patty

Remove patty to a plate and let rest 1–2 minutes to redistribute juices.

Bun

  1. 5

While the patty rests, split the hamburger bun and toast cut sides in the same skillet for 20–30 seconds until lightly golden and warmed, or toast in a toaster. This also warms the bun so the sauce doesn’t cool the burger.

Sauce & Assembly

  1. 6

Spread 1 tablespoon Triple 'O' style burger sauce evenly on the bottom bun. Place the rested beef patty on the sauced bottom bun.

  2. 7

If using garnish, add 1 slice pickles or up to 2 tablespoons shredded lettuce on top of the patty. (For a plain kid’s hamburger as requested, omit the optional garnish.)

  3. 8

Cover with the top bun and serve immediately while warm.
