Method

Prepare Glass

  1. 1

    Chill and fill

Choose a highball or Collins glass. If desired, chill the glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes. Fill the glass with crushed ice, leaving about 1 inch (2.5 cm) from the rim for pouring and garnish.

Mix Drink

  1. 2

    Combine mixers

Pour 6 oz ginger ale and 2 oz lemon-lime soda over the crushed ice. Pour slowly so carbonation is retained.

  2. 3

    Add grenadine and lime

Drizzle 1 tablespoon grenadine down the inside of the glass so it sinks toward the bottom and creates the classic layered look. Add 1/2 tablespoon fresh lime juice on top of the ice and gentle liquid.

  3. 4

    Gentle stir

Using a long bar spoon, give the drink one or two gentle stirs to slightly mix the grenadine without entirely removing the layered appearance. Aim for a soft gradient rather than full homogenization.

Garnish & Serve

  1. 5

Skewer a maraschino cherry and rest it on the rim or drop it into the glass. Slide a lime wheel or place a lime wedge on the rim. Optionally insert a straw. Serve immediately while cold and fizzy.
