Preparation and Cooking
1. Prepare the Steak
In a bowl, combine olive oil, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Rub the mixture onto the steak evenly. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
2. Cook the Steak
Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the steak for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness. Remove from heat and let rest for 5 minutes.
3. Sauté the Vegetables
In the same skillet, add thinly sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until they are softened and slightly caramelized.
4. Assemble the Submarine
Slice the submarine bread lengthwise without cutting all the way through. Spread mayonnaise inside. Layer the shredded lettuce, sliced tomato, cooked steak (sliced), sautéed vegetables, and provolone cheese slices. Optionally, add hot sauce to taste.
5. Serve
Close the submarine and press down gently. Cut into portions and serve immediately.
