Preparation

Soak the Slices
Place the sliced potatoes in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch, ensuring crispier chips.
Cooking
- 4
Heat Oil
In a large, deep pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. You want the oil to reach about 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.
- 5
Dry Potato Slices
After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels. Make sure they are as dry as possible to avoid oil splatter and ensure crispiness.
- 6
Fry the Chips
Carefully add a handful of potato slices to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 3-5 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil.
- 7
Drain and Season
Place the fried chips on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. While they are still hot, sprinkle with salt and your choice of seasoning (paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, and optional herbs).
