Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it is ready for baking.

  2. 2

    Prepare Baking Dish

Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking dish to prevent the dessert from sticking.

Mixing

  1. 3

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, cocoa powder, and salt until well combined.

  2. 4

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In a separate bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the granulated sugar and continue to beat until light and fluffy.

  3. 5

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add the eggs one at a time to the butter mixture, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  4. 6

    Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. If desired, fold in chopped nuts and chocolate chips.

Baking

  1. 7

    Pour into Baking Dish

Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.

  2. 8

    Bake the Dessert

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  3. 9

    Cool the Dessert

Remove from the oven and let cool in the baking dish for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serving

  1. 10

    Slice and Serve

Once cooled, slice the dessert into squares. Serve dusted with powdered sugar, fresh berries, and a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.
