Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water to the batter. The batter will be thin, but that’s okay.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Remove from the oven and allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, remove from pans and let cool completely on wire racks.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 7

    Beat Butter and Cocoa

In a medium bowl, beat the butter and cocoa powder together until well blended.

  2. 8

    Add Sugar and Milk

Gradually add the powdered sugar and milk, beating to spreading consistency. Stir in the vanilla.

  3. 9

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate and spread frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

Serving

  1. 10

    Serve with Ice Cream

Slice the chocolate cake into pieces and serve each slice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
