Method

For the Fries

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash and peel the Russet potatoes, then cut them into thin strips to make fries.

  2. 2

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  3. 3

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the potato strips to the hot oil in batches, frying for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 4

    Drain and Season

Remove the fries from the oil and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with salt while still hot.

For the Chili

  1. 5

    Cook the Beef

In a large skillet over medium heat, add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula.

  2. 6

    Add Vegetables

Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef, cooking until the onion is translucent.

  3. 7

    Season the Mixture

Stir in chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper, cooking for another minute.

  4. 8

    Add Tomatoes and Beans

Pour in the canned diced tomatoes and kidney beans, stirring to combine. Let the chili simmer for about 15-20 minutes.

Assembly

  1. 9

    Layer the Fries

On a large serving platter, place a generous layer of crispy fries.

  2. 10

    Top with Chili

Spoon the hot chili over the fries evenly.

  3. 11

    Add Cheese

Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese generously over the chili.

  4. 12

    Garnish and Serve

Top with sliced green onions and dollops of sour cream. Serve immediately.
