Prepare the Cornmeal Crust
In a mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, salt, and 1/4 cup of the granulated sugar. Mix well.

Mix the Wet Ingredients
In a separate bowl, melt the unsalted butter. Add the remaining 3/4 cup of granulated sugar, and mix until combined. Then, add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing thoroughly.

Combine Mixtures
Slowly add the buttermilk to the wet ingredients, stirring continuously.

Pour and Bake
Pour the buttermilk custard mixture into the prepared pie dish.

Cool and Serve
Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool at room temperature.
