Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

1

Muddle blueberries

Place the fresh or frozen blueberries in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Add the simple syrup and muddle gently until the berries are broken and release their juices (about 20–30 seconds). This extracts color and flavor for the cocktail.

2

Add spirits and citrus

Add the vodka, blueberry liqueur (or blueberry-flavored vodka), triple sec, and fresh lime juice to the shaker containing the muddled blueberries.

3

Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker with crushed ice (about 1 cup). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty and the mixture is well-chilled. Vigorous shaking helps emulsify the fruit and chill the drink thoroughly.

4

Double strain

Prepare a chilled coupe or martini glass. Double-strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into the glass to remove blueberry solids and seeds, leaving a smooth, lightly purplish cocktail.

5

Adjust sweetness or tartness (optional)

Taste quickly (one small sip) — if the cocktail is too tart, add 1/4 fl oz simple syrup and stir briefly; if too sweet, add a few drops (about 1/8 fl oz) of lime juice and stir.

Garnish

6

Thread the 3 blueberries onto a cocktail pick and rest across the rim, or float them in the drink. Add a lime wheel or a thin lime twist to the rim for aroma.
