Bao Bun Ingredients

Method

Cooking Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Bao Buns

In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. Add flour, baking powder, and salt, mixing until a dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.

  2. 2

    Steam the Bao Buns

Once dough has risen, divide into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into an oval shape, then fold in half. Place on parchment paper and steam for 10-12 minutes until fluffy.

  3. 3

    Cook the Pork Belly

Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C). Rub pork belly with salt and pepper. Place in a baking dish and cover with aluminum foil. Bake for 2.5 to 3 hours until tender. Allow to cool slightly, then slice into bite-sized pieces.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Bao Buns

Spread hoisin sauce inside each bun, add sliced pork belly, and top with cucumbers, pickled jalapenos, and shredded carrots. Serve immediately.
