Prepare the Glass
Place a large ice cube or several smaller ice cubes in an old fashioned glass.

Mix the Ingredients
In a mixing glass, combine the bourbon or rye whiskey, simple syrup, and angostura bitters. Stir well until chilled.

Strain and Serve
Strain the mixture into the prepared glass over the ice.

Garnish
Express the oils from the orange peel over the drink and drop it into the glass. Add a maraschino cherry on top for garnish.
