Hibiscus Tea Base

Sweetening and Serving

Method

Preparing the Hibiscus Tea

  1. 1

    Boil the Water

In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over medium-high heat.

  2. 2

    Add Hibiscus and Spices

Once the water is boiling, add 1 cup of dried hibiscus flowers, 1 tablespoon of grated fresh ginger root, and 3 cardamom pods. Stir to combine.

  3. 3

    Simmer

Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 15 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.

  4. 4

    Strain the Tea

After 15 minutes, remove the saucepan from the heat. Using a fine mesh strainer, strain the tea into a large pitcher or bowl, discarding the solids.

Sweetening and Serving

  1. 5

    Sweeten the Tea

While the tea is still warm, stir in 2 tablespoons of demerara sugar until dissolved.

  2. 6

    Add Dates

Add the chopped dates to the tea and stir well. Allow to cool for a few minutes.

  3. 7

    Serve

Pour the hibiscus tea into cups or glasses, optionally over ice. Enjoy your refreshing hibiscus ginger tea with a hint of cardamom and sweet dates!
