Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Cut Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cold running water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a towel. Cut each potato into large strips, approximately 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips into a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This step helps to remove excess starch and results in crispier fries.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to accurately measure the oil temperature.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potato strips and pat them dry thoroughly with paper towels. This will prevent oil splatter and ensure the fries get crispy.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of the dried potato strips into the hot oil. Fry for about 6-8 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Make sure not to overcrowd the pot.

  4. 6

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. While they are still hot, sprinkle with salt, paprika, and garlic powder to taste.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve Hot

Transfer the fries to a serving platter or individual bowls. Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor. Enjoy your large fries!
