Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dough Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until the dough starts to come together.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Assembling the Pizza

  1. 5

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.

  2. 6

    Shape the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll or stretch it out into your desired pizza shape.

  3. 7

    Add Tomato Sauce

Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the shaped dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

  4. 8

    Add Cheese

Tear the fresh mozzarella cheese into small pieces and distribute them evenly over the sauce.

  5. 9

    Season

Drizzle olive oil over the pizza and season with salt and black pepper to taste.

  6. 10

    Bake the Pizza

Transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (or onto the pizza stone) and bake for about 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.

  7. 11

    Add Basil

Once out of the oven, scatter fresh basil leaves on top and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.
