Method

Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  6. 6

    Prepare Baking Sheet

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and grease a baking sheet with olive oil.

  7. 7

    Shape the Focaccia

Punch down the risen dough and transfer it to the prepared baking sheet. Press it into a rectangle, about 1 inch thick.

  8. 8

    Add Toppings

Dimple the surface with your fingers, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with rosemary and coarse sea salt.

  9. 9

    Second Rise

Cover the dough loosely with plastic wrap and let it rise for another 20-30 minutes.

  10. 10

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

  11. 11

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, slice, and serve warm.
