Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally.

  3. 3

    Reserve Pasta Water

Before draining, reserve about 1 cup of the pasta cooking water for later use. Then drain the spaghetti and set aside.

Preparing the Sauce

  1. 4

    Heat Olive Oil

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Sauté Garlic

Add minced garlic cloves to the skillet and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn them.

  3. 6

    Add Tomatoes

Chop the fresh tomatoes and add them to the skillet. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until they break down and create a sauce.

  4. 7

    Incorporate Other Ingredients

Stir in capers, sliced black olives, and red chili flakes. Let it simmer for another 5 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Combine and Serve

  1. 8

    Mix Pasta with Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet with the sauce. Toss well to combine, adding reserved pasta water a little at a time to achieve desired consistency.

  2. 9

    Garnish and Serve

Tear fresh basil leaves and sprinkle them over the pasta. Serve immediately while hot.
