Base Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Coffee Mixture

Brew 1 cup of espresso coffee and allow it to cool. Once cooled, mix it with 1 cup of coffee liqueur in a shallow dish.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Egg Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, separate the egg yolks from the egg whites. In the bowl with the yolks, add 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar. Whisk together until the mixture is creamy and pale.

  3. 3

    Incorporate Mascarpone

Add 16 oz of mascarpone cheese to the egg yolk mixture and gently fold it in until well combined.

  4. 4

    Whip Egg Whites

In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gradually fold the beaten egg whites into the mascarpone mixture to create a light and airy cream.

Assembly

  1. 5

    Dip the Ladyfingers

Quickly dip each ladyfinger cookie into the coffee-liqueur mixture, ensuring they get soaked but not soggy.

  2. 6

    Layer the Ingredients

In a 9x13 inch dish, create a layer of dipped ladyfingers at the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers. Repeat the process with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture on top.

Finishing Touches

  1. 7

    Chill and Dust

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. Before serving, dust the top with 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder and sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings.
