Brewing Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Mash

In a large pot, bring 16 cups of water to a boil. Stir in 3 cups of malted barley and maintain the temperature between 150°F to 160°F for about 60 minutes.

  2. 2

    Boil the Wort

After mashing, remove the grains and bring the liquid (wort) to a boil. Add 0.5 cups of hops and boil for 60 minutes.

  3. 3

    Cool the Wort

Once the boiling is complete, cool the wort quickly using an immersion chiller or by placing the pot in an ice bath.

  4. 4

    Fermentation

Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermentation vessel and add 1 tsp of yeast. Seal the vessel with an airlock and let it ferment for about 1-2 weeks at a temperature of 65°F to 72°F.

  5. 5

    Bottling

Once fermentation is complete, dissolve 1 cup of corn sugar in boiling water and add it to the beer for carbonation. Bottle the beer and cap each bottle.

  6. 6

    Conditioning

Let the bottles sit at room temperature for another 1-2 weeks to carbonate. After that, chill and enjoy your homemade Labatt’s Blue Light!
