Pasta and Cheese

Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Caramelize the Onions

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring frequently, for about 20-25 minutes until they are caramelized and golden brown.

  3. 3

    Add Garlic and Flour

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir to combine, cooking for another minute.

  4. 4

    Make the Sauce

Gradually add the beef broth and heavy cream, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens. Bring to a simmer.

  5. 5

    Add Cheese

Remove from heat and stir in the Gruyere and cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  6. 6

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Fold the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce until well combined.

  7. 7

    Bake

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the macaroni and cheese mixture into a baking dish. Top with French fried onions. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until bubbly and golden.

  8. 8

    Serve

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your French Onion Mac!
