Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Muddle the Sugar

In an old-fashioned glass, place the sugar cube and add 1 teaspoon of water. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to crush the sugar until it has dissolved.

  2. 2

    Add Bitters

Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters over the muddled sugar. Stir gently to combine the flavors.

  3. 3

    Add Bourbon

Pour 2 oz of bourbon into the glass over the muddled sugar and bitters mixture. Stir gently to mix.

  4. 4

    Add Ice

Add 3 ice cubes to the glass. Stir gently again to chill the drink without diluting it too much.

  5. 5

    Garnish the Cocktail

Take a piece of orange peel and twist it over the drink to release the oils. Optionally, you can run the peel around the rim of the glass for added aroma. Drop the peel into the drink as a garnish.
