Method

For the Roast Beef Sandwich

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onion and sauté until they are soft and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  2. 2

    Assemble the Sandwich

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise, but not all the way through. Layer the roast beef inside each roll, then add the caramelized onions on top of the beef, followed by two slices of Swiss cheese per sandwich.

  3. 3

    Melt the Cheese

Spread the remaining tablespoon of butter on the outside of the hoagie rolls. Place the assembled sandwiches on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the rolls are crispy.

For the Au Jus

  1. 4

    Prepare the Au Jus

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and let cook for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
