Pasta Preparation
- 1
Cook the Lasagna Noodles
In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add 1 tsp of salt. Carefully add the lasagna noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
Meat Sauce Preparation
- 2
Prepare the Meat Sauce
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks, about 5-7 minutes. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.
- 3
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Cheese Mixture Preparation
- 4
Make the Cheese Mixture
In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, and 0.5 tsp of salt. Mix until well combined and set aside.
Assembly and Baking
- 5
Layer the Lasagna
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Place 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles, followed by a layer of meat sauce. Repeat the process, adding another layer of noodles, ricotta mixture, and meat sauce.
- 6
Top with Mozzarella
Finish with a final layer of noodles topped with the remaining meat sauce. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top.
- 7
Bake the Lasagna
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Let it cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
