Method
Cake Directions
- 1
Prepare the Oven and Pans
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, sift together 1.75 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 cups of granulated sugar, 0.75 cups of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1.5 tsp of baking powder, 1.5 tsp of baking soda, and 1 tsp of salt.
- 3
Combine Wet Ingredients
In another bowl, whisk together 2 large eggs, 1 cup of whole milk, 0.5 cups of vegetable oil, and 2 tsp of vanilla extract.
- 4
Combine Mixtures
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined. Gradually stir in 1 cup of boiling water until the batter is smooth.
- 5
Bake the Cakes
Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 6
Cool the Cakes
Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for about 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Ganache Directions
- 7
Heat the Cream
In a small saucepan, heat 1 cup of heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.
- 8
- 9
Cool the Ganache
Allow the ganache to cool at room temperature until it thickens slightly, about 15-20 minutes.
- 10
Frost the Cake
Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate, pour half of the ganache on top, and spread it evenly. Place the second layer on top and pour the remaining ganache over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides.
