Method

Preparation of Dry Ingredients

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar until well combined.

Preparation of Wet Ingredients

  1. 2

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, melted unsalted butter (cooled to room temperature), and vanilla extract until smooth.

Combining Ingredients

  1. 3

    Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay. If using cornmeal, fold it into the batter at this stage.

Cooking the Waffles

  1. 4

    Preheat Waffle Iron

Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  2. 5

    Cook the Waffles

Pour an appropriate amount of batter into the preheated waffle iron (usually about 1/2 to 3/4 cup, depending on the size of your waffle iron). Close the lid and cook until golden brown and crisp, according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve Warm

Serve the waffles warm, drizzled with honey or maple syrup if desired. Enjoy!
