Method
Preparation of Roe
- 1
Rinsing the Roe
Gently rinse the rainbow trout roe under cold running water to remove any impurities. Be careful not to break the delicate eggs.
- 2
Seasoning the Roe
In a small bowl, combine the rinsed trout roe with sea salt, lemon zest, and chopped fresh dill. Mix gently to coat the roe evenly without damaging the eggs.
- 3
Chilling the Roe
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the roe to chill.
Serving the Roe
- 4
Preparing the Serving Base
While the roe is chilling, prepare your serving base by arranging crackers or toast points on a serving platter.
- 5
Adding the Roe
Once the trout roe has chilled, use a small spoon to place a generous dollop of the seasoned roe on each cracker or toast point.
- 6
Finishing Touch
On the side, add a small bowl of sour cream for dipping or spreading, if desired. Garnish with extra dill on top of the roe for added freshness.
