For the Calamari

For the Dipping Sauce

Method

Prepare the Calamari

  1. 1

    Clean the Calamari

Begin by cleaning the calamari. Remove the head and tentacles, and discard the insides. Rinse the calamari under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Slice the Calamari

Cut the calamari body into rings, approximately 1/2-inch thick. Set aside in a bowl.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Batter

In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Mix well.

  4. 4

    Soak in Buttermilk

Pour the buttermilk over the calamari rings and let them soak for about 30 minutes.

Fry the Calamari

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or a frying pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).

  2. 6

    Coat the Calamari

Remove the calamari from the buttermilk and allow the excess to drip off. Dredge the rings in the flour mixture, ensuring they are well-coated.

  3. 7

    Fry the Calamari

Carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 8

    Drain and Serve

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried calamari and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot.

Prepare the Dipping Sauce

  1. 9

    Mix the Ingredients

In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, ketchup, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce. Stir until well blended.

  2. 10

    Serve

Serve the dipping sauce alongside the fried calamari for a delicious pairing.
