For the Panko Mozzarella Balls
For the Tomato Dipping Sauce
Method
Preparing the Panko Mozzarella Balls
- 1
Prepare the Breading Stations
Set up three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with panko breadcrumbs mixed with salt and pepper.
- 2
Bread the Mozzarella
Take each mozzarella ball, coat it in flour, dip it in the beaten eggs, and then roll it in the panko breadcrumbs until fully coated.
- 3
Heat the Olive Oil
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. You want enough oil to cover the bottom of the skillet.
- 4
Fry the Mozzarella Balls
Once the oil is hot, add the breaded mozzarella balls in batches. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Making the Tomato Dipping Sauce
- 5
Sauté the Garlic
In a small saucepan, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- 6
Add the Tomatoes and Seasoning
Pour in the crushed tomatoes and add the dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.
- 7
Simmer the Sauce
Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Allow it to cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 8
Finish with Fresh Basil
Stir in the chopped fresh basil before serving. Adjust seasoning to taste.
