Pasta Preparation

Cook the Orecchiette
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the orecchiette pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
Meatball Preparation

Make the Meatball Mixture
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, egg, salt, black pepper, and chopped fresh basil. Mix until well combined.

Form the Meatballs
Roll the meat mixture into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter. Place on a baking sheet.

Cook the Meatballs
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.

Add Tomatoes and Season
Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes, add fresh basil leaves, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and let cook for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Combine with Meatballs
Return the cooked meatballs to the skillet and let them simmer in the sauce for an additional 5 minutes.

Combine Pasta, Sauce, and Meatballs
In a large serving bowl, combine the drained orecchiette pasta with the tomato sauce and meatballs. Toss gently to coat the pasta evenly.

Top with shaved Parmesan cheese and whole basil leaves. Serve immediately.
