Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine the warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- 2
Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Mix until a rough dough forms, then knead on a lightly floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Assembling the Pizza
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) for at least 30 minutes before baking the pizza.
- 6
Shape the Dough
Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it in half. Roll out one half into a 12-inch circle on a floured surface.
- 7
Add Tomato Sauce
Spread the canned crushed tomatoes evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- 8
Add Cheese and Basil
Tear fresh mozzarella into pieces and scatter over the tomato sauce. Add fresh basil leaves on top.
- 9
Season and Drizzle
Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- 10
Bake the Pizza
Transfer the pizza to the oven and bake for about 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 11
Serve
Remove from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, slice, and serve hot.
