Method

Gnocchi Preparation

  1. 1

    Boil Potatoes

Peel and boil the potato until soft, about 20 minutes. Drain and let it cool slightly.

  2. 2

    Mash Potatoes

Pass the boiled potatoes through a potato ricer or mash them until smooth.

  3. 3

    Make Dough

In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, flour, egg, and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms.

  4. 4

    Shape Gnocchi

On a floured surface, roll the dough into long ropes (about 1.5 cm thick). Cut the ropes into 2 cm pieces to form gnocchi.

  5. 5

    Form Ridges

Optional: Press the back of a fork into each piece to create ridges for better sauce adherence.

Cooking Gnocchi

  1. 6

    Cook Gnocchi

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the gnocchi and cook until they float to the top, about 2-3 minutes.

  2. 7

    Drain Gnocchi

Remove the gnocchi with a slotted spoon and set aside.

Sauce Preparation

  1. 8

    Heat Sauce

In a saucepan, heat the marinara sauce over medium heat until warm.

  2. 9

    Combine Gnocchi and Sauce

Add the cooked gnocchi to the sauce and gently stir to coat the gnocchi.

Assembly

  1. 10

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F).

  2. 11

    Prepare Baking Dish

Transfer the gnocchi and sauce mixture to a baking dish. Tear the fresh mozzarella into chunks and distribute them over the top.

  3. 12

    Add Toppings

Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with fresh basil leaves.

  4. 13

    Bake Gnocchi Sorrentina

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
