Method

Garnish & Glass Prep

  1. 1

    Prepare glass rims

Spread the coarse salt in a shallow dish. Run a lime wedge around the outer rim of each margarita glass to wet it, then dip the rim into the salt, twisting to coat evenly. Set the glasses aside to dry briefly.

Frozen Margarita Base

  1. 2

    Measure and chill

Measure tequila, fresh lime juice, triple sec, and simple syrup into a measuring pitcher. For best coldness, chill the liquid mixture in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes while you prepare ice and glasses (optional).

  2. 3

    Blend

Add the chilled liquid mixture and ice to a high-speed blender. Secure the lid and pulse once to break up large ice, then blend on high until smooth and slushy (20–40 seconds depending on blender power). If the mixture is too thick, add 1–2 tablespoons of cold water or additional lime juice; if too thin, add 1/2 cup more ice and re-blend.

  3. 4

    Taste and adjust

Taste a small spoonful and adjust sweetness or acidity as needed: add 1/4–1/2 oz simple syrup for more sweetness or 1/4 oz lime juice for more tartness. Blend briefly to incorporate any additions.

  4. 5

    Serve

Divide the frozen margarita evenly among the prepared salt-rimmed glasses (this recipe yields about 4 servings). Garnish each glass with a lime wheel on the rim or a lime wedge. Serve immediately with a straw or short stirring spoon.
