Muddle the mint and sugar
In a sturdy glass, add the fresh mint leaves and granulated sugar. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently press and twist the mint leaves against the sugar to release the mint oils and create a fragrant base.

Add lime
Cut the lime in half and squeeze the juice from both halves into the glass. After squeezing, drop the lime halves into the glass as well. Muddle everything together gently to mix the flavors.

Mix in the rum
Pour the white rum into the glass over the muddled mint, sugar, and lime mixture. Stir gently to combine all the ingredients.

Add ice
Fill the glass with ice cubes to the brim.

Top with club soda
Pour the club soda over the ice, filling the glass to the top. Stir gently to combine.

Garnish and serve
Garnish with additional mint leaves and a lime wedge if desired. Serve immediately with a straw.
