Main Dish Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Fish
In a large bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. In another bowl, whisk together eggs and buttermilk until well combined.
- 2
Coat the Fish
Dredge each whiting fillet first in the egg mixture, then in the flour mixture, ensuring each fillet is well-coated.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large deep skillet or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Fry the Fish
Carefully place coated fillets into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Mix the Vegetables
In a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage and grated carrot.
- 6
Prepare the Dressing
In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper until smooth.

Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss until everything is well coated. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Soak cut fries in cold water for 30 minutes to remove excess starch. Drain and pat them dry.
- 9
Heat the Oil
In a deep fryer or large pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 10
