Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, remove from pans and transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Directions

  1. 8

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy.

  2. 9

    Add Cocoa and Sugar

Gradually sift in the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, mixing on low speed until combined.

  3. 10

    Add Milk and Vanilla

Pour in the milk and vanilla extract; beat on medium speed until the frosting is light and fluffy.

  4. 11

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top of that and frost the top and sides of the cake.
