Prepare the squid
In a bowl, mix the cleaned squid rings with salt, black pepper, and paprika. Let it marinate for about 15 minutes.

Set up the breading station
In one bowl, place the all-purpose flour. In another bowl, add the cornstarch. In a third bowl, beat the eggs.

Bread the squid
Dip each squid ring first in the flour, then in the egg, and finally in the cornstarch, ensuring an even coating.

Fry the squid
Carefully add the breaded squid rings to the hot oil in batches. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
For the Spicy Marinara Sauce

Sauté the garlic
In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and crushed red pepper flakes, sautéing for about 1 minute until fragrant.

Add the tomatoes
Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and sugar. Bring to a simmer.

Simmer the sauce
Let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.

Finish with basil
Remove from heat and stir in the chopped fresh basil before serving.
