Method

Preparation of BBQ Sauce

  1. 1

    Make the BBQ Sauce

In a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt. Stir well.

  2. 2

    Simmer the Sauce

Cook over medium heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly. Remove from heat and set aside.

Italian Beef Preparation

  1. 3

    Prepare Italian Beef

In a saucepan, heat the shredded Italian beef with beef broth over medium heat until warmed through, about 5-10 minutes.

Hot Dogs

  1. 4

    Cook the Hot Dogs

Grill or boil the Vienna Beef hot dogs according to package instructions until heated through, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 5

    Toast the Buns

While hot dogs are cooking, lightly toast the hot dog buns on the grill or in a toaster.

Assembly

  1. 6

    Assemble the Bear-down Dog

Place each hot dog in a toasted bun. Dip each hot dog into the homemade BBQ sauce, allowing excess to drip off.

  2. 7

    Add Toppings

Top each BBQ-dipped hot dog with a generous portion of the shredded Italian beef, followed by shredded cheddar cheese and giardiniera to taste.
