Malt and Hops

Method

Brewing Process

  1. 1

    Mashing the Grains

In a large pot, heat 3 gallons of water to approximately 160°F (71°C). Add the Pale Malt, Crystal Malt, and Carapils Malt to the pot. Stir well and maintain the temperature between 150°F and 155°F (65°C - 68°C) for 60 minutes.

  2. 2

    Sparging

After mashing, drain the liquid (wort) from the grains into a separate pot. Rinse the grains with an additional 3 gallons of water at approximately 170°F (77°C) to extract as much sugar as possible.

  3. 3

    Boiling the Wort

Bring the wort to a boil and add the Cascade Hops. Boil for 60 minutes, adding the Centennial Hops in the last 15 minutes of the boil.

  4. 4

    Cooling the Wort

After the boil, cool the wort quickly using a wort chiller or by placing the pot in an ice bath until it reaches about 70°F (21°C).

  5. 5

    Fermentation

Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermentation vessel and pitch the yeast. Seal the vessel with an airlock and allow fermentation to occur for about 1-2 weeks, or until bubbling has stopped.

  6. 6

    Bottling

Once fermentation is complete, siphon the beer into sanitized bottles, adding 3/4 cup of priming sugar to carbonate the beer. Cap the bottles and allow them to condition at room temperature for 1-2 weeks.

  7. 7

    Enjoying

Refrigerate the bottles for a few hours before serving. Pour into a glass and enjoy your homemade Twister Creek IPA!
