Beer Battered Shrimp

Method

Preparation Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Shrimp

Rinse the large shrimp under cold water, then pat them dry with paper towels. Ensure they are thoroughly dried to allow the batter to adhere properly.

  2. 2

    Make the Beer Batter

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually add the Alaskan Summer Ale to the dry ingredients, stirring until the batter is smooth and slightly thick.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test if the oil is ready by dropping a small amount of batter into the oil; it should sizzle and float to the surface.

  4. 4

    Batter the Shrimp

Dip each shrimp into the beer batter, ensuring they are fully coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off before frying.

  5. 5

    Fry the Shrimp

Carefully place the battered shrimp into the hot oil in small batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

  6. 6

    Prepare the Coleslaw

In a separate bowl, mix the coleslaw mix with a dressing of your choice (such as mayonnaise, vinegar, and sugar) if desired, and set aside to let the flavors meld.

  7. 7

    Serve

Arrange the fried beer-battered shrimp on a serving plate with a side of coleslaw, cocktail sauce, and lemon wedges for squeezing over the shrimp.
