Method

Tea Base

  1. 1

    Boil water

Bring 8 oz (about 240 ml) of fresh cold water to a rolling boil in a kettle or small pot.

  2. 2

    Steep tea

Place 2 tsp Assam black tea leaves into a teapot or heatproof cup. Pour the boiling water over the leaves, cover, and steep for 4–5 minutes for a strong, malty flavor. For slightly lighter tea steep 3–3.5 minutes.

  3. 3

After steeping, strain the tea leaves into a heatproof measuring cup or directly into the serving cup, leaving about 2 oz space for milk.

Milk & Sweetener

  1. 4

    Heat milk

While the tea steeps, gently heat 4 oz whole milk in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until just steaming and small bubbles form at the edge (do not boil), about 2–3 minutes. If you prefer froth, whisk briskly or use a milk frother for 10–15 seconds.

  2. 5

    Sweeten

Add 1 tsp granulated sugar (and 1 tsp honey if using) to the hot milk or directly to the strained tea and stir until dissolved. Taste and adjust sweetness to preference.

  3. 6

Pour the hot milk into the strained Assam tea. The recipe targets a 12 oz final drink: if needed, top with a splash of hot water to reach 12 oz total volume.

Finishing

  1. 7

Optional: Garnish with a cinnamon stick or a light dusting of ground cinnamon for aroma.

  2. 8

Serve immediately while hot. Stir before drinking to ensure milk and tea are fully combined.
