Cold Brew Concentrate
Latte Assembly
Method
Cold Brew Concentrate
- 1
Combine coffee and water
In a large jar or pitcher, add 3 cups coarsely ground coffee. Pour 12 cups cold filtered water over the grounds, ensuring all grounds are saturated. Stir gently to fully wet the grounds.
- 2
Steep
Cover the jar or pitcher and steep at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 16 to 20 hours. Longer steep time yields a stronger concentrate; avoid going past 24 hours to limit over-extraction.
- 3
Strain
After steeping, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve lined with a coffee filter, cheesecloth, or a nut-milk bag into a clean container. If necessary, strain a second time to remove remaining fine sediment. You should have a cold brew concentrate roughly 1:4 coffee to water strength.
- 4
Refrigerate
Cover and refrigerate the concentrate. It will keep for up to 7–10 days; stir or gently shake before use if settled.
Latte Assembly
- 5
Prepare glass and ice
Fill a 16-ounce glass with about 1 cup of ice cubes (adjust for preferred chill and dilution).
- 6
- 7
Add sweetener and vanilla
Add 1 tablespoon simple syrup (or sweetener to taste) and 1/4 tsp vanilla extract, plus a pinch (1/4 tsp) of salt if using. Stir briskly to dissolve the syrup into the cold brew. Tasting here allows adjustment of sweetness.
- 8
Add milk
Slowly pour 8 oz cold whole milk (or milk of choice) over the concentrate. For a creamier texture, use whole milk; for lighter, use 2% or plant-based alternatives. If you prefer a frothy top, froth the milk cold with a milk frother or by shaking vigorously in a sealed jar for 20–30 seconds, then pour.
