Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prep the Steak

Remove the beef tomahawk steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 1 hour before cooking. This helps it cook evenly.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Pat the steak dry with paper towels. Rub the olive oil all over the steak, and then season generously with kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and rosemary on both sides.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Prepare the Grill or Oven

Preheat your grill to high heat (about 450°F to 500°F). If using an oven, preheat to 400°F.

  2. 4

    Sear the Steak

Place the steak on the grill or in a hot skillet and sear for 4-5 minutes on each side until a nice crust forms.

  3. 5

    Finish Cooking

For medium-rare, move the steak to a cooler part of the grill or lower the heat and cook for another 10-15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 130°F. For medium, aim for 140°F.

  4. 6

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the heat and let it rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute.

Serving

  1. 7

    Slice and Serve

Slice the steak against the grain and serve with your favorite sides.
