Method

Chasu (Pork Belly)

    Prepare the Pork Belly

    In a pot, combine soy sauce, mirin, sake, sugar, minced garlic, and sliced ginger. Bring to a simmer.

    Cook the Pork Belly

    Add the pork belly to the pot, cover, and simmer for about 2 hours until tender. Remove and let cool, then slice thinly.

Menma (Bamboo Shoot)

    Soak the Dried Bamboo Shoots

    Soak dried bamboo shoots in water for 4-6 hours or until rehydrated.

    Prepare Menma

    In a pan, combine rehydrated bamboo shoots, soy sauce, mirin, and sesame oil. Cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes.

Gobo (Burdock Root)

    Prepare the Burdock Root

    Wash and peel the burdock root, then cut into thin strips.

    Cook the Gobo

    In a pan, combine burdock root, soy sauce, sugar, and rice vinegar. Cook over medium heat for about 15 minutes until tender.

Naruto (Fishcake)

    Slice the Fishcake

    Cut the naruto fishcake into thin slices and set aside for serving.

Corn

    Prepare Sweet Corn

    If using frozen corn, steam or boil it for about 5 minutes until heated through. If using fresh corn, cut the kernels off the cob.

Boiled Egg

    Boil the Eggs

    Place eggs in a pot and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 7-8 minutes for a soft-boiled egg. Cool in ice water and peel.

Nori (Seaweed)

    Cut the Nori Sheets

    Cut nori sheets into quarters or desired size for serving.
