Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare shaker

Fill a cocktail shaker about two-thirds full with ice (approx. 6 cubes). This ensures rapid chilling and proper dilution.

  2. 2

    Add ingredients

Measure and pour 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz fresh lime juice, 1 oz Cointreau, and 0.25 oz simple syrup (if using) into the shaker. Add 3 dashes of Angostura bitters directly into the shaker with the other ingredients.

  3. 3

    Shake

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is cold and frosty. The bitters will integrate and the dilution will balance the drink.

  4. 4

    Rim the glass (optional)

If you want a salted rim, run a lime wedge around the rim of a chilled coupe or rocks glass. Press the rim into a shallow dish of coarse sea salt or kosher salt to coat evenly. Discard any excess salt.

  5. 5

    Strain and serve

Double-strain the cocktail through a Hawthorne strainer and (optional) fine mesh strainer into the prepared glass to remove ice shards and pulp. The drink should be clear with a pale lime color.

  6. 6

    Finish with bitters and garnish

Express a lime twist over the cocktail to release oils and drop the twist in or place a lime wheel on the rim. Optionally add one tiny drop of Angostura bitters on the surface (center) to add aromatic complexity and create a subtle pattern. Serve immediately.

Garnish & Glass

  1. 7

Chill the glass in the freezer or fill it briefly with ice water while preparing the cocktail, then empty before straining. Use the lime wheel or wedge as garnish and salt the rim if desired as described above.
