Method
Bacon (thick-cut) — pan or oven method
- 1
Pan-fry bacon (crispy edges, quick)
Place a large cold skillet or frying pan over medium heat. Lay 6 slices of thick-cut bacon in a single layer without overlapping. Cook, turning with tongs every 2–3 minutes, until browned and crisp at the edges, about 10–12 minutes total depending on thickness. Reduce heat if splattering is excessive. Transfer cooked bacon to a plate lined with paper towels to drain and season lightly with 1/4 tsp of the black pepper while hot. If glazing, brush each slice with 1 tablespoon maple syrup in the last 1 minute and allow it to sizzle briefly.
- 2
Oven-baked bacon (even, hands-off)
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on it (or place bacon directly on foil for chewier result). Arrange 6 slices in a single layer. Bake 14–20 minutes until edges are browned and desired crispness is reached. Remove and transfer to paper towels to drain. Season with 1/4 tsp black pepper and optionally brush with remaining 1 tablespoon maple syrup.
Sausage links
- 3
Pan-cook sausage links
Heat 1 teaspoon olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add 4 sausage links, spacing them apart. Cook, turning occasionally, for 12–15 minutes until browned on all sides and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for pork sausage (or manufacturer's recommendation). If links brown too quickly, reduce heat to medium-low and continue cooking through. Rest 2 minutes, then slice in half on a bias or serve whole. Optionally brush lightly with 1 tablespoon maple syrup during the last 1–2 minutes and sprinkle with 1/4 tsp black pepper.
- 4
Turkey bacon
- 5
Pan-toast turkey bacon
Place a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Lay 6 slices of turkey bacon in a single layer. Cook 2–3 minutes per side until browned and slightly crisp (total 6–8 minutes). Because turkey bacon has less fat, add 1 teaspoon olive oil to the pan if the slices appear very dry. Transfer to paper towels and season with 1/4 tsp black pepper. Optionally brush with 1 tablespoon maple syrup in the final 30 seconds for a glossy finish.
- 6
Canadian bacon (back bacon)
- 7
Pan-sear Canadian bacon
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the pan with 1/2 teaspoon olive oil if skillet is not nonstick. Add 6 slices of Canadian bacon and cook 1.5–2 minutes per side until nicely browned and warmed through (it is fully cooked already). Transfer to plate and sprinkle with 1/4 tsp black pepper. If desired, brush with remaining maple syrup for a glazed breakfast-style flavor.

Finishing & serving
- 9
Drain any excess fat by placing cooked meats on paper towels for 1–2 minutes. If you prepared multiple protein types, keep them warm on a low oven (200°F/95°C) on a rack-lined sheet pan. Sprinkle chopped parsley over the meats if using. Serve immediately alongside eggs, pancakes, toast, or as part of a breakfast sandwich.
