Old-Fashioned Cocktail
Method
Old-Fashioned Cocktail
- 1
Prepare glass and sugar
Chill an old-fashioned (rocks) glass by filling with ice and setting aside while you assemble the cocktail. If using a chilled glass technique, you may skip the ice later. Measure demerara simple syrup (0.25 oz).
- 2
Add bitters and syrup
Discard the ice used to chill the glass (if chilled that way). Add the measured demerara syrup into the glass. Add 3 dashes of Angostura bitters and 1 dash of orange bitters on top of the syrup.
- 3
Combine bourbon
Pour 2 oz of bourbon (E.H. Taylor or similar) into the glass over the syrup and bitters.
- 4
- 5
Garnish and serve
Express the oils of an orange peel over the surface of the cocktail by holding the peel skin-side down over the glass and giving it a quick squeeze; then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the drink. Optionally, add a Luxardo or brandied cherry on a cocktail pick. Serve immediately.
