Filling and Sauce
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). This ensures that the cannelloni bakes evenly.
- 2
- 3
Add Spinach
If using fresh spinach, add it to the skillet and cook until wilted, about 3-4 minutes. If using frozen spinach, ensure it’s thawed and drained before adding it to the skillet. Mix well.
- 4
Mix Filling Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, cooked spinach, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, black pepper, nutmeg, and the egg. Mix until well combined.
- 5
Stuff Cannelloni
Using a small spoon or piping bag, carefully fill each cannelloni tube with the cheese and spinach mixture. Set aside.
- 6
Prepare Baking Dish
Spread 1 cup of marinara sauce evenly across the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- 7
Arrange Cannelloni
Place the stuffed cannelloni in a single layer over the marinara sauce in the baking dish.
- 8
Top with Sauce and Cheese
Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the cannelloni and then sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
- 9
Bake
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- 10
Serve
Allow the cannelloni to cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with additional Parmesan cheese if desired.
