Method
Cake Directions
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- 3
- 4
Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Then carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is well mixed.
- 5
Bake the Cake
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 6
Cool the Cakes
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
Ganache Directions
- 7
Prepare the Ganache
In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat.
- 8
Melt the Chocolate
Add the semi-sweet chocolate chips and unsalted butter to the hot cream. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth and glossy.
- 9
Cool the Ganache
Let the ganache cool at room temperature until it thickens slightly, about 15-20 minutes.
- 10
Frost the Cake
Once the cakes are completely cool and the ganache has thickened, place one layer of cake on a serving plate. Spread a layer of ganache on top, then place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides with the remaining ganache.
